After rolling out Android Oreo to Android One Moto X4, Lenovo went ahead and released the Android 8.0 Oreo update to the unlocked Moto X4 in India. However, there was no mention of when the same will happen for those using the retail X4 in the U.S.
If you felt neglected, well, there is something to smile about. Lenovo has taken to its official online forums to announce that the unlocked Moto X4 is now getting the long-awaited update to Android Oreo. Note that like the Project Fi variant, you still get v8.0 and not the newer v8.1.
As usual with OTA updates, it will take some time, perhaps days or even a week, before all Moto X4 handsets receive the Oreo update. Since Oreo has just started rolling out, you may have to wait until later this week or even next week for your turn to get the OTA notification. Of course, you are also welcome to try a manual update via the phone’s Settings menu.
With Android Oreo, you’ll get features such as notification dots, picture-in-picture and a bunch of new emojis, if you like such stuff, but don’t expect to get Project Treble.
